The history of the world is but the biography of great men

Dear friends!

We invite you to take a fascinating journey to the South Urals, to Chelyabinsk, to learn about this city and the people who have created and continue to create its cultural image. In modern media, there is an image of Chelyabinsk as an industrial center drowning in smog, and its people as harsh bearers of an exclusively industrial culture, which does not correspond to the cultural appearance of the city. Chelyabinsk is the homeland of many literary and artistic figures: poets and writers, architects, painters, sculptors, musicians, film and theater actors, directors who have won fame both in Russia and abroad. Wonderful teachers, scientists, industrialists, military and statesmen were born and worked in the region. A whole galaxy of athletes who have received worldwide recognition for their achievements come from Chelyabinsk. Many prominent figures of Russian and foreign culture were guests of Chelyabinsk and spoke about it.

All these people, as well as their creations and achievements, constitute the cultural heritage of Chelyabinsk and its cultural code, which we tried to decipher. These people have left their mark on the history and culture of our city and Russia.

As the famous American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote in A Psalm of Life:

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time.

We hope that many of you who touch the cultural heritage of Chelyabinsk and get acquainted with the results of our project will leave their “footprints on the sands of time.”

Happy intellectual journey!
